The finest collection of Noah’s Ark to come onto the open market has come to rest at Vectis Toy Auctions
THE ANIMALS CAME in two by two but arks definitely don’t. These exquisite toys are rarely seen even in fine auction houses, antique stores or Museums and when found you are lucky if you have a choice.
Vectis Auctions are privileged to offer over 30 examples dating from 1800s as part of their 11th June 2013 “Dolls, Teddy Bears and Tinplate” sale.
The sets, from an avid collector who has been amassing them over a 20 year period, drawing from all over the world, is the first to be offered on such a scale.
The tradition of Arks as a toy can be traced back to Germany in the 1700s, particularly in Erzgebirge region, with cottage industry style production. Due to the intricacy, fine detailing and numerous parts, few have survived in good condition, when found they can fetch prices in excess of £10,000.
