DENVER, Pa. – The Merle Levitt collection of pre- and postwar Lionel, American Flyer and Ives trains will step into the spotlight on March 11-12 when it is auctioned at Morphy’s.
A retired CPA, Levitt began collecting trains the old-school way, back in the 1970s. He networked with other collectors and gleaned information from whatever source possible so he could make educated buying decisions. “There weren’t as many good reference publications back then. A lot of what I learned was through word of mouth,” Levitt s said.
Levitt later developed a fondness for pressed-steel toys, also included in the auction at Morphy’s. Top lots include a circa-1925 American National Blue Streak truck with wild animals litho’d onto the side panels, a Sturditoy oil tanker truck rated 9.5 out of 10, a Sturditoy red and black “Traveling Store” furniture delivery truck in outstanding condition, and a Buddy ‘L’ Road Roller.
