IF AN AUCTION EVENT could be compared to a feast, the September 28-30, 2012 Rich Penn Auction at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, IA will be an extravaganza of collector entrées and delicacies seldom seen in a single location. “We’re offering collectors the very best
in several categories,” Penn explained, “and we promise this will be an auction that will tempt collector palettes from start to finish!”
Where’s The Fire?
The first course will be hot & tasty appetizers. It’s all about the fire! Fire Engine Toys will be sold that span well over a century of production, from the 1880s to today. This massive collection of several hundred lots, which was certainly one of the largest in the country, runs the gamut of famous names in fire engine toys. Toys will be offered from makers like; Ives, Wilkins, Dent, Arcade, Kenton, Kilgore, Smith-Miller, Buddy L and others. From the earliest cast iron examples to pressed steel to more contemporary models, collectors will be offered examples of firefighting gear that has protected our communities for nearly 150 years. Penn added, “Just the very nature of firefighting brings up images of incredible heroism and strength. These examples of well known fire engines that were used over the decades are just plain impressive.” Be prepared to sink your teeth into this grouping of magnificent “hot & tasty” toys.
