Getting ready for the October 27 Chicago Toy Show is like planning for a huge party, like arranging for an enormous social gathering of old friends, like scheduling a tour through a museum full of rare and unusual collectibles assembled from the best and most desirable toys and dolls available today. Organizing the show is like positioning 600 Rock Stars so their followers, their fans and customers, can find them. It is like planning for six Open Houses to open simultaneously in six different buildings, each one full of contents to rival anything ever seen before. This show constantly presents the best in all price ranges from vintage turn of the century toys to the most desirable newer collectibles.

Strolling through the show is like waking up in a dream, surrounded on every side with valuable toys and dolls that haven’t been seen for years, like suddenly finding yourself surrounded with treasures you could only see in your mind’s eye. And knowing that you are not dreaming, you realize that you most certainly are surrounded by items you thought you never would see again. This accounts for the sparkles in your eyes and the smile on your face. We are all kids at heart.

Finding just the right piece to add to your collection is what this is all about. Watching your collection increase in value and rarity is what this is all about. Finding collectibles you did not know still existed is what this is all about. Having friends that share your love and knowledge of toys and dolls through informal discussions is what this is all about. Being the first to purchase an unusual piece while everyone gasps is what this is all about. This hobby is fun, and the search is fun, and the friends you make in your pursuit are enjoyable folks that will share your interest forever.

For most of us, Heaven would be a repeat of the Chicago Toy Show every day, again and again, and we’d enjoy it forevermore. But this slice of heaven only comes twice a year on the fourth Sunday in April and October, so be sure to arrive October 27 at the Kane County Fairgrounds, 525 South Randall Road, St. Charles IL 60174 for the next show. Food is served all day in the Atrium kitchen. Parking is free, admission is $9 for adults, and children under 12 are free. Check now!
