IN THE REALM OF vintage toys, some makers have been recognized as producing a line of products of consistently high quality. Some are deemed to be at the other end of the quality spectrum while many are ranked somewhere in between.
Banner Plastics Corporation of Paterson, New Jersey is one of the “inbetweeners.” Banner is primarily known for its production of a number of very breakable hard plastic toy vehicles issued in huge quantities primarily in the early 1950’s and selling them for about a dime. The company also issued a few pressed steel vehicles of some merit, their Jewel Tea delivery van for example.
Presented in this article are three examples of Banner’s lesser known but clearly their biggest and best efforts in plastic.
