I HAVE COME ACROSS a group of a dozen color photographs of early horsedrawn toys, all of which appear to be made of tinplate, with cast iron wheels. But that’s all the information about them that I have. Who built them? What size is each? What era do they belong to?
I can guess quite a bit, however, without a smidgen of proof. For starters, they should all be about 10-14″ in overall length. Most may well be American, to judge by the horses, with Germany as a second thought. Two are French, and say so. At least two more are probably French. They are all charming, and I’d love to have the lot of them, wouldn’t you?
