IT STARTED WITH A Daisy Red Ryder Air Rifle BB Gun. Nine-year-old Ralphie coveted the toy for Christmas like no other. It ended with a wonderful 1983 movie entitled A Christmas Story that reminds us all that maybe one reason we collect toys is the important role they played in our childhood dreams and many memories. This movie’s setting probably took place around 1940, and did happen in Hammond, Indiana. It is full of zaniness and color, hugging everyone like a well-loved toy.
Ralphie is warned that if he gets the BB gun he desires, he “will shoot his eye out.” His father gives him one for Christmas, and indeed, Ralphie shoots his glasses right off his face. Still Ralphie will never forget the coveted present.
