In memory of Jack Herbert

I had the honor and fun of knowing the Great Jack Herbert for over 30 years. He was a friend and mentor who introduced me to the Antique Toy collecting community. We first met and worked together in the 1980s to expand the Collectibles department at Phillips New York. Although he had a mischievous sense of humor, he insisted that Antique Toys be taken seriously. He generously shared his knowledge and helped instill in me a love for transportation toys and American Tin. Jack was a superb conversationalist. He filled our countless road trips to visit collections and attend toy shows and conventions with a broad spectrum of knowledge, experiences, anecdotes and humor with a special appreciation of the silly and absurd.
