FORD SEEMED TO catch other auto manufacturers rather off guard with their introduction of their Mustang in April 1964 It was deemed a 1964 ½ model but remained in their line until the 1965 model year introduction The Mustang appeal was quickly noted by toy manufacturers and most significantly by Japanese toy makers.
The Japanese toy maker Bandai went especially “way out” with their issue of at least eight different tin toy 1965 Mustangs. Their issues ranged in lengths, and included both coupes and convertibles, “Way out” also appropriately describes Bandai’s seeming scarcest Mustang It is their 11- inch 1965 Mustang “F.B.I. Commander.” It was a coupe with not only F.B.I. markings on the doors but also American Automobile Association markings as well.
