Focal Point: Road Service Truck • Taniguchi Shoten – c. 1958

 In Steve Butler, Tin Toys

By Steve Butler

THE TOY TRUCK available for purchase was still secured in its original box. Graphics used on boxes for Japanese tin toys do not always represent the actual contents. The “road service truck” pictured on this box seemed to be an oversized pickup in white over red. What appeared to be a small logo was depicted on the cab door. A magnifying glass indicated that it read “chevlet.” Because “with street sign” was printed on the box, a street sign should be found inside. There were five signs pictured on the box, one was being held by a worker and four other signs were standing in the truck bed.
