36 Years of Mille Bornes
By Richard Jansen
TWENTY-EIGHT YEARS AGO I retired from a nearby university. While there, I taught courses in Social Work and Education along with numerous other responsibilities. A favorite course taught in our January Interim and summer sessions had a component that was an interactive, small group lab focusing on human relations skills development. Each group received teaching support from undergrad students (co-leaders) who had completed at least one prior offering of the course. These co-leaders met with me after each session. These meetings encompassed debriefing each group, reading and commenting on journal entries kept by each student, as well as planning my next presentation before class broke into their small groups.
