Greetings From the Dollhouse – The CarBarn Collection of Toys

FOR THE PAST 67 years, among certain circles, Withington Auction has been known as the nation’s leading doll auctioneer. In fact, no one has been continuously conducting specialty auctions of antique dolls longer. In its present incarnation, the company continues to exist, in spite of the fact that Dick Withington has been gone for 18 years now. Upon his departure, we had our first introduction to antique toys as a strong entity in the world of collecting. Some of you may remember the auction back in 2008 over 400 mechanical banks… his personal collection. For Dick, who had a passion for collecting money… the cast iron banks were a natural fit. Historically, as a young man, when Withington Auction was in its formative stages, Dick went to the local branch of the Bank of NH for a short-term loan of $5,000. He was buying out the contents of an old farm, a no-brainer in those days. The antiques were fresh and plentiful and this was a good deal.
