My Name is Toys – Corgi Toys

In 1965, a few weeks before Christmas, the English toymaker Corgi Toys included in the trade catalogue the gorgeous Aston Martin DB5 driven by special agent 007 James Bond, taken from the movie Goldfinger. Only 100,000 pieces would be sold during the early months, and 4 million copies were sold from 1965 up to 1969. The die-cast model had to be scaled down from the real car, which is fifty times larger. Additional modified models came out in 1968 and 1970. This first die-cast moulded in a 1/46 scale is undoubtedly a hit in the Corgi Toys range. The iconic car is reissued by Corgi in 2024, the silver beach body painting celebrating the 60th anniversary of the motion picture. The toy comes with the exciting secret actions shown in the movie and written on the nice car board package: opening roof, bull rear screen, retractable guns, telescopic over-riders, ejector seat, and flip-up roof. The colours: 007 fans will spot that the Corgi car is gold, but the silver body comes later. The gold remains the favorite of the period kids. The bubble-packed model came out in February 1970 under Ref 27, slightly longer than the 261 previous model. Tyre slashers in red nylon were fitted into the rear wheels. This silver die-cast comprises a gold-plated front radiator and bumpers. This new 190 model stayed in the toymaker’s range for about ten years. A controversial model made in the unusual 36/1 scale under the same reference 271 was also made but not too much desirable.
