Spotlight On Comic Character By Carl Lobel

Powerful Katrinka was a character in the Toonerville Trolley comic strip created by Fontaine Fox titled
Toonerville Folks. Katrinka was one of those folks & she was drawn as a well built, sturdy woman wearing a
dress with a voluminous skirt. Her role in the strip was defined by her great strength. Jimmy was one of the many
children who populated the comic strip. He was a member of the McGuire family & brother to Mickey McGuire. At
one time he was the president of the Scorpion’s Club.

Fontaine Fox licensed his trolley & his characters to a variety of companies to produce toys, dolls, games & other
memorabilia. Fox was a hands on toy designer. He didn’t just approve the designs of the tin toys produced by the
company that had acquired the rights – the H. Fischer company of Nuremberg, Germany.

Fox suggested toys to be produced & then designed the toys & mechanisms himself. Each of the Fontaine Fox licensed & authorized toys produced by H. Fischer has a unique & complex mechanism suggested by Fox & based on the story line as it unfolded in the comic strip.
