Focal Point: Dragnet Cap Gun, Knickerbocker, 1955

By Steve Butler

The Focal Point in the October 2015 issue of Antique Toy World was the Dragnet Riot Gun (actually a plastic
double barrel shotgun – cap gun). This follow-up is the companion piece, the Dragnet Detective Special
Cap Gun. This pistol was issued by Knickerbocker in 1955 and sold in a matching yellow/black/white display
packaging as was the riot gun. It is new-old-stock from a defunct toy distributorship.
Glaring at prospective buyers is a likeness of Jack Webb, a.k.a. Sergeant Joe Friday. On the back of the
cardboard Packaging is a “DRAGNET IDENTITY CARD.” The card is to be cut out and a photo of the new
owner and his/her thumb print to be added in the identified locations. To the right are three paragraphs
about guns, policemen and proper use with Jack Webb’ s signature imprinted below.
