The UNEXPECTED

ABOUT THREE HOURS were spent last Saturday searching six antique malls for vintage toys that were interesting or at least unusual and also worth purchasing. A vendor in the third mall had a pair of adjacent spaces with numerous display cases loaded with hundreds of items but not a toy in sight. None was expected, but the interesting offerings resulted in a temporary pause in the search for toys.

Most of the items displayed for sale could be categorized as scientific or tools or instruments or some relation thereto, and most were primarily small and made of metal. Each was accompanied by an informative typed description.
